VW Bug that Could – We Won the Gold

Bugging home

The June Bug went to school today, and while the morning ride was a bit tense (you can read about the ride to school on my mom’s Odd blog), the afternoon ride home went much more smoothly. It was the first time I’ve really felt that the June Bug and I were on the same road. I was very proud of her effort in the cold. Perhaps our relationship has a chance after all. The only downside is that my toes still haven’t thawed yet, despite the fact that I was wearing two pairs of wool socks and heavy boots. It was cold ride home.

This is a cool video of the bug compared to a mini-school bus.

It was a big surprise when I pulled into the garage and the national anthem started to play. And my mom caught the amazing moment on video. Even after long hours of training, I never expected to win the gold for driving a VW Bug in the extreme cold. It almost made freezing my toes off worth it.

We’ve collected a lot of autographs over the last few days, which I will share more about over the next few days. Thanks to all new signers. I will also be back (as soon as my fingers thaw—did I mention it was a cold ride home?) to offer the next installment in car culture. I’m looking forward to telling you all about a very pretty grille.

Thanks for going along for the ride!

Yep, you definitely earned the gold, Cole! And probably another gold for such a great backup parking job! Poor June’s heater is on the fritz?? Better work on that, too, because winter doesn’t seem to want to go away this year!

That bug is going to get you both killed! Katybeth, don’t drive and film!!!!

My mother had the camera attached to a video grip. No accidents were caused in the making of these videos.

Thanks for noticing the back up parking job. We are working on the heater, the heaters have always been problematic in a Bug. In the meantime I’ve ordered a car electric blanket to use on the seat. My cigarette lighter works great so the blanket can be plugged in but of-course then we will probably blow fuses. Challenges are never few or far between.

  5. I was half expecting to see a marching band welcoming you and June Bug home!!! Congrats—you definitely get the gold in my awards ceremony!!!
